Being an artist is one's orientation to life.
Interest in the human face is our first response of connection and bonding. It is enduring in ways that are more fundamental than we may understand.
To me, the face has always held fascination, even obsession. It is a landscape of form, complex, intimate, and endlessly exciting to express in brushstroke, color and form.

Trees have been an enduring element of my life.
The magnolia trees outside my home are my companions, day in and out. Trees are beautiful, exchange oxygen, enrich and mine minerals to support all plant life and stop soil erosion. They are guardians on earth and no explanation could do them justice.
My art pays tribute to trees and expresses my love for them and the joy and security they evoke.

Nature is sacred. Life is sacred. Each personal journey is sacred.
My work is the response of my heart to the beauty of life, fleeting, enduring, tender.
I look for the creative perfection in the imperfection of natural form, endlessly enticing.
The nature of creative expression speaks to the moment, to the quality of listening, of looking, of seeing.
The landscape, for me, is one of the most free and passionate subjects to paint. It's expanse, allows for loose, bold brushstrokes.
Often the land, with it's curving forms, lit above from the sun, is like a reclining figure, our mother, earth.
To paint landscape is to orient to place, to appreciate our extraordinary planet, fragile and strong, enduring and full of change, to contemplate one's place on this earth, within one's life. . . . Painting allows one to stop and slow down, to move into the moment, into meditative observation.

The gazebo in our local park has been a great inspiration to me as well as to many artists who come to paint.
Structurally beautiful with latticed boards which criss-cross above in the sky, delineating patterns of light, it calls me back to a more graceful and elegant past.

Drawing to me is the exploration and interaction with form, with the shapes of line that delineate object from the surrounding negative space.
Drawing is exploration, redefinition, design, discovery, presence, reverence, journal .
